Newsletter re: Proposition for Senior/Community Center & Updated Recycling Information - Oct. 2007

Description:

October 2007

Dear Residents of Hadley,

We hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather that this fall season has blessed us with. As you are all aware, the General Election will take place on Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Town Board of Hadley has approved to include a proposition on the ballot that will determine whether or not we proceed with a Senior/Community Center to be built on the vacant lot by Hadley Park. We wanted to provide you with all of the information needed to base your decision as a voter.

The proposition will read:

Shall the Town Board of the Town of Hadley be authorized to (1) construct and equip  a Senior Citizens / Community Center building on property already owned by the Town of Hadley at Maple Street, Hadley, at a maximum cost of Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00), the source of funds for which would be approximately $120,795.00 currently held in a Reserve Account previously set aside by the Town Board for the construction of a senior citizens center and the remaining amount, up to $129,205.00 would be distributed from the Town's general fund balance and (2) expend such sums for such purpose from such existing accounts?

You will have to vote Yes or No.

Keep in mind, no monies will need to be borrowed for this project as the General Fund already contains the funds needed. However, the utilities and annual maintenance of the building will be the responsibility of taxpayer's dollars. That amount will be determined on an annual basis at budget time.

The intent of the Senior/Community Center is to provide a place for the community to hold social gatherings. For example: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Youth Groups, Baby/Bridal Showers, Birthday Parties, Music in the Park if it rains, Craft Fairs, Educational Seminars, Hunter Safety & Boating Safety Courses, etc. Also, all of the Senior Citizen commercial stainless steel kitchen appliances already acquired by a previous grant (refrigerator, 60" Six burner propane range, freezer & dishwasher) will be installed in the Senior/Community Center's kitchen. This would also allow the Town of Hadley to possibly become a meal-site for the Senior Citizens in the future.

So please take the time to exercise your right to vote on November 6th. The choice is yours. Thank You.
